How to check wheelchair accessibility on a house plan
Three checks are enough for a first accessibility pass on a home, before filing for a permit or starting work.
1. The 1.50 m turning circle
A wheelchair user needs a clear turning space, free of any obstacle, 1.50 m in diameter, to turn around comfortably. That circle must fit in every everyday room (living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom), furniture and open doors included.
2. Doorway clearance
Every door needs a sufficient clear passage width, with manoeuvring space free on both sides — a door that is technically wide enough but wedged between two pieces of furniture does not pass the check.
3. Usage heights
Outlets, switches and handles need to stay at a reachable height, neither too low nor too high, for standing and seated use alike.
SanctuaPlan places these turning circles on your plan automatically and flags every issue with the exact rule cited — no account needed.
